Jewelry has been in demand in the whole world since man has discovered metals like gold. Jewelry is an individual ornament such as a necklaces, rings, or bracelets which is made up from gemstone, valuable metal like gold, platinum, silver etc. or other materials and is used for self decoration.

Basically, the word Jewelry is taken from the expression jewel, which was anglicized from an Old French word known as "jouel". It is one of the oldest forms of body decoration. Recently some 100000 year old Jewelry was found from a place called Nassarius and they are considered to be the oldest Jewelry that was made in the world.

Jewelry comes in various forms like necklaces, rings, bracelets, armlets, toe rings, ear rings, crowns and many more. All these are made up by using a range of gemstones, shiny precious metals, animal products like ivory an much more and their fusion.

As a matter of fact, Jewelry was used as a wealth asset in the earlier times but now Jewelry is mostly used to adorn by humans. Jewelry has been used for numerous ways by man. It was used as currency and also to display or show one’s status in the society. It is used for artistic displays. It was also used by Kings as there armours and swords. Last but not the least; it was mainly used for decorating oneself.

India has been the country for Jewelry. In fact, India has the greatest incessant legacy of making Jewelry. It is known that in India, the first people who started making Jewelry were the people from the Indus Valley civilization. To tell the truth, India was the first country in the world that started out mining Diamonds with some mines in India dating back to nearly 300 BC. Since very old times, all the Jewelry has been mostly used and made for the women. Women in India are known for their love for Jewelry.

In consequence, Indian Jewelry is very unique in its own way because Jewelry in India depicts the culture of India. Indian Jewelry is inspired from various art forms that prevail in India. Every state of India has its own style of making the Jewelry. Various types of gemstones like amber, jade, jasper, emerald, ruby, sapphire, turquoise; metals like gold, silver, platinum; diamonds; crystals and many more such decorative materials are used here. According to Hindu mythology, each and every gemstone has its own religious value, so there are greatly followed by the people. But now the traditional Indian Jewelry is available only at some specific locations in India. This kind of Indian Jewelry is quite costly because of its very skilled art work. Some traditional designs that are most famous in India are Kundan style in which priceless stones are blended with precious metals like god and silver; Meena style that has metallic designs with metal filings available in different variety of colours and Filigree style which is a very beautiful but very delicate designed Jewelry which basically is made from thin wires of metal like silvers and then moulding the bunch of wires.

Indian Jewelry is considered to be the heart and soul for the Indian women. They consider the Jewelry very close to them and are very crazy about them. The women in India are very choosy about their Jewelry due to the magnificent varieties of the Indian Jewelry. All the Indian women have different types of jewelries for every distinct functions and festivals.

In fact, in India it is believed that the marriages are incomplete without beautiful and sparkling Jewelry. Indian Jewelry is extensively used in the marriages held here as they are considered a must and hold the utmost priority. The reason for this being that all the brides should look like angels. In these marriages, very heavy Jewelry is carried by the people. Also, it is used to display the image a person holds in the society. The Jewelry is also used to signify many things in India. A lady who is married can be judged if she is wearing a toe ring. Married women in India also wear nose rings.

As told earlier, India has a very wide variety of cultures and each culture has its own style of designs and so there is a huge array of styles of Jewelry that is available. This makes it a very vast field for its study. Moreover, there several colleges and universities that offers courses in Jewelry designing in India. Institutes like National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) and Jewelry Design & Technology Institute, Noida offer courses in Jewelry designing. There has been a rise in the demand for the course as the Indian Jewelry has gained popularity around the world in this modern world.

Now days, the Indian Jewelry easily available and is traded around the world. There is a great demand for Indian Jewelry around the world due to its uniqueness, fabulous creativity and stunning looks. This makes all the people around the globe crave for it. Now, due to this increase in demand the Indian Jewelry is available on the internet also. The main advantage of purchasing the Indian Jewelry through the internet is that people do not have to go too far off places where the traditional Jewelry is made but instead people can select the different styles and order the same on the internet. But the addition of shipping charges makes the overall costs very high.
